It's December - which means... New Year's mood has already captured everyone who expects magic and joyful events in winter. To fill everything around with the spirit of the holiday, everyone strives to surround themselves, one of which is a Christmas wreath.

How did the tradition of decorating a house with wreaths come about?

Decorating your home this way is enough ancient tradition which came from Western countries. It is worth noting that until recently, Christmas wreaths on Russian doors looked quite exotic.

The idea of creation belongs to Johann Wichern, who lived in Hamburg. He was wealthy enough that he could afford to help orphans. The kids looked forward to Christmas and constantly asked their caregiver when it would come. Then Johann decided to give them a small gift - taking an old cart wheel and placing 16 candles on it, he hung it on the door. 12 candles were red and not very large, and the remaining 4 were much larger and white. Every morning, Johann and the kids lit one red candle, and on Sunday one white candle was lit. The result was a kind of calendar that allowed us to count down the time until the long-awaited holiday.

Wreath- It is not simple symbol of Christmas and New Year, it is also a kind of amulet for the house, which protects all its inhabitants, brings happiness and prosperity. The round shape of the wreath symbolizes endless life, the green color symbolizes good health, and the small candles represent the warmth of the family hearth.

How to make a frame for a wreath?

Can serve as a basis tree or metal wire, and coniferous branches and even paper. The strength of the entire structure itself and its durability depend on the choice of base. So, the classic base can be straw, vines, willow twigs and even old wheel rim. If this is not at hand, ordinary metal wire will also be a good basis for a Christmas decoration. Another option - unnecessary wires(for example, an old extension cord), which must be tightly twisted together. If you don’t know how to make a Christmas wreath with your own hands, the photos will help you understand the basic principle of operation.

Small piece of old hose, thick cardboard, as well as pieces of old newspaper rolled up together and fastened with wire, as well as fabric in the form of a roller filled with cotton wool or padding polyester - all this and much more can serve as an excellent basis for an advent wreath.

How to decorate a Christmas wreath?

For decoration you can use classic ones - Christmas balls, tinsel, artificial candles and small angel figures. However, the symbol of the hearth and the approaching magic deserves more imagination, so it’s worth making a little effort to ensure that every detail of this New Year’s miracle is of special interest.

Textile

Bright ribbons of red, green, gold and silver will decorate the Christmas wreath and give it a festive look. If desired, you can complement the composition with a bow made of beautiful fabric.

Cones

This decorative element was given by nature itself. To make the cones look brighter and more attractive, you can cover them with silver paint.

Needles

Coniferous or pine twigs can be replaced with thuja or juniper paws. The decorative jewelry store sells artificial fir legs - in this case, the wreath will last for several years.

Berries

Juicy and beautiful berries will remind you that autumn is already over, and frost and snow are ahead. They pair well with both thatch and green spruce feet.

Flowers

Fresh flowers on wreaths are very rare, as they quickly fade. But recently, stabilized plants have appeared that can be included even in the most complex compositions. If you do not have such elements on hand, then replace them with dried flowers.

Yarn

An original way to decorate a wreath is to add knitted decorations or pom-poms made from yarn. Stylish and unusual.

Candies

What can please children more than sweets? Candy in a bright wrapper makes a great decoration, but can quickly disappear from the base.

Paper

Decorations can also be made from plain craft paper. Flowers, animal figures or New Year's motifs - it all depends on your imagination.

Leaves

Dried leaves will perfectly complement a wreath that reminds you of the end of this year. This composition will be complemented by cinnamon sticks and dried fruits.

Wreaths made of dried fruits, citrus fruits, spices and cones with nuts look and smell very beautiful.

Decorating a house with a Christmas and New Year's wreath is a very beautiful custom that came to us from Western countries. Just a few years ago, such wreaths looked quite exotic in Russia. But today this is an absolutely typical type of home decoration in the days before Christmas, which is made from spruce branches and four candles, fixed vertically or placed on a table. According to Catholic custom, the first candle is lit on the first Sunday of the four-week fast - Advent, the second on the next Sunday, and so on.

This fragile wreath was made from Christmas tree decorations and frost. Just shine.

You can also use artificial spruce branches to make a wreath; it is not necessary to destroy the trees.

Why only toys and snowmen, a butterfly on a Christmas wreath also looks harmonious.

Rowan twigs, dried flowers and pine spruce branches - your wreath will be the very best.

Christmas wreaths owe their appearance to the Hamburg Lutheran theologian Johann Hinrich Wichern, who took in children from poor families. During Lent they kept asking when Christmas would come. And in order to make it easy for children to count down the time until the holiday, Wichern in 1839 made a wreath based on an old wheel, which was decorated with nineteen small red and four large white candles. Every morning one small candle was lit in the wreath, and on Sundays a large one was added to them.

The symbolism of Christmas wreaths has several basic meanings. At first, the addition of fire and light in the wreaths symbolized the growing anticipation of the birth of Jesus Christ - the light of the world. To everything was added the interpretation of the round shape, the symbolism of the wreath, determined by the spruce greenery, the colors of candles and decorative ribbons acquired additional meaning. Thus, Christmas wreaths and four candles began to be associated with the meaning of the globe and the four cardinal directions. The circle is considered to be a symbol of eternal life, which Sunday gives, the green color is the embodiment of life itself, and candles are the light that illuminates the world on Christmas days. In Christmas traditions, wreaths are usually decorated with three purple candles and one pink candle, which corresponds to the liturgical colors of worship during the Advent period. The pink candle is lit during the third week of Advent, when Sunday is called Gaudete, or Rejoice!

And such a bright wreath can be made from bright scraps of fabric. Below the picture you will find a detailed master class.

DIY New Year's wreath

Of course, today you can buy these symbolic wreaths anywhere. But what could be better, more reverent and even more majestic, how to make a New Year's wreath with your own hands and decorate your pre-holiday home with it. This will hide the real mystery of waiting for a miracle, although it would seem that this is just handicraft, the result of which will be a New Year's toy, of which there are already many. After all, few people observe fasting, and very few adhere to the ritual of lighting candles.

Is this an artificial tree or a real one? I don’t see the difference, but I’ll make the wreath as if it were artificial, why kill a living tree?

Fir needs to be trimmed and cleaned regularly. and from cut twigs and fallen pine cones you can make such a wonderful wreath.

But in the process of making this beauty, a person subconsciously becomes imbued with the sacredness of the action and, to top off the work, is completely overwhelmed with the feeling of the triumph of the holiness of the upcoming event. As for the degree of complexity of making a wreath, there is nothing difficult about it. In addition, you should not deny yourself the joy of doing joint creativity with your children. And after determining the type of wreath and preparing the necessary materials, you can begin work without any doubt.

From a tie, feathers, balloons, there are so many wreaths!

So, the main thing in a wreath is the base, its base, which will keep the decoration from falling apart. The base is created from any suitable item. The classic base is natural raw materials in the form of straw, twigs, vines and even the rim of a wooden wheel. At worst, you can use wire. But in practice, any available material is used as the basis for a wreath. This will create an excellent base from wires twisted and secured in the form of a circle (for example, a simple extension cord). A piece of hose, thick cardboard that can be glued together from several layers of thinner ones, newspapers compressed into bundles and fixed with a thin wire, fabric in the form of a roller filled with cotton wool or padding polyester, and similar materials are also suitable.

Classic coniferous wreath.

But this wreath-candlestick will sparkle with a gentle flicker from the candle flame.

Toys, beads, nuts and garlic - you can immediately see that the mistress is in the house.

To do DIY New Year's wreath, you will have to stock up on garden wire or twine, scissors or pruning shears, glue or liquid nails, and also decoration for the wreath. For a traditional wreath you will need spruce or pine spruce branches, which can be replaced with a thuja or holly branch. You can also make a wreath that will be a decoration “for centuries” if you use artificial spruce branches and then periodically change the decor. By the way, you can decorate a wreath not only with the usual New Year’s decorations, but also with everything that your imagination can tell you. For example - dried flowers, pine cones, berries, fruits, vegetables, cinnamon sticks, spices, spiral-cut citrus peels, cayenne pepper, tangerines, apples, artificial and fresh flowers, candies, sweets, Christmas cookies, garlands, Christmas tree decorations , decorative braid, beads and ribbons. Ordinary brushes and paints, silver and gold sprays, and artificial snow will also come in handy.

We form flowers from felt circles and bobby pins and generously decorate our wreath.

Do you have an old hoop lying around or just a round base? Decorate it with tinsel and the wreath is ready!

Practical advice will also be useful, for example, how to make a wreath from pine or spruce branches. Usually, the frame is first made from wire or other rigid material. Then the coniferous branches are cut to the required length and the weaving of the wreath begins. The branches are laid in a clockwise direction, with the bare part of the previous branch being covered by the lush part of the next one. The second layer is woven in the opposite direction, which will help give the product volume. The branches are fastened together with wire, and it is better to take green wire, which will be invisible against the background of pine needles. Thin garden or craft wire will also work. The number of layers is taken such that DIY Christmas wreath done, it will be pleasing to the eye. Then the wreath is braided with a satin ribbon and decorated with the materials you choose. Typically, such a wreath is hung on the entrance door or on the wall, and also placed on a coffee table or shelf. But the future location of the wreath needs to be thought out in advance, because it can turn out to be quite heavy, which will not be held on by adhesive tape or pushpin, and you don’t always want to spoil the wall with a thick nail. Therefore, even before you start working with the wreath, you need to decide on its placement. If it is possible to mount it vertically on a strong mount, then you can make a heavy version of the wreath, and if the mount is quite flimsy, then it is better to choose a lighter form, which will make the decoration no worse. And if you still want to make a weighty thing, but the mounting didn’t work out, then you can place the wreath on a horizontal surface - a table, shelf, stand. But here you can let your imagination run wild and load the wreath with any, even the heaviest, toys. It will look so beautiful, quite heavy, but very symbolic New Year's wreath of pine cones, decorated with gold spray, artificial snow, nuts and apples. Candles are traditionally inserted into such a wreath, laid on the table. To fasten them well, you can heat the wire and stick it perpendicularly into the base of the candle, then fasten the wire to the main frame and decorate the lower part by a third with pine branches.

This beautiful wreath of red balls is easy and quick to make. Read our master class.

Take a wire hanger. Dry cleaners provide these hangers.

Use pliers to separate the hanger.

Prepare several sets of balls of different diameters.

By the way. We needed about 80 balls for the job.

String the balls onto the base so close to each other that the wire is not visible.

If the balls begin to bunch up and roll, secure them with a drop of glue-seconds.

Your wreath should be tight.

When the last piece of jewelry is on, twist the ends of the hanger.

Now wrap the hook with red ribbon.

Attach the tape with glue.

All you have to do is make a bow from the ribbon and tie it to the wreath.

Although not only the base is made from almost any suitable material. The wreath itself and its decoration can also be made as a completely unexpected fruit of your own imagination. This way you can create a wreath from buttons of different diameters and styles, attached to a cardboard base and suspended using a strap with a round buckle. You can also dispossess your husband and make a creative wreath of ties wrapped around a plastic headband so that the tabs look beautifully outward into the decoration like flower petals. An absolutely unexpected option is a newspaper wreath: strips of paper are collected in the form of a three-dimensional flower and strung on a wire frame. You can decorate a wreath of spruce paws with small Christmas balls and memorable family photographs. Since there isn’t much space expected, you’ll have to limit yourself to five or six small photos.

Hang New Year's wreaths on the door can be done without much difficulty: you need to tie a beautiful ribbon on the inside to the fittings or door handle, throw it over the top of the door leaf and secure it in a suitable place with a button, tape or nail. This will depend on the weight of the decoration and the material from which the door is made, since you definitely cannot hammer nails into an armored sheet. On the front side, the wreath itself is attached to the ribbon; from the inside of the room, the ribbon is usually decorated with pine cones, toys and rain.

But such a wreath can be made from red ribbons and burlap.

Hanging wreaths are usually made of lightweight material. Therefore, you can cover a tire from a children’s bicycle with a beautiful striped fabric, decorate it with beads and small cards. It would be nice to choose postcards in an old style. And a wreath made from this material will definitely become your favorite: take a handful of small balls and decorate a circle of the same wire with them. You will get a soft and fluffy multi-colored caterpillar curled into a ring. Fast and sweet. Everyone will probably love the idea of making a wreath from dried citrus rings attached to a paper ring. The wreath can be decorated with a spruce branch and a bunch of bright red Christmas balls with the same ribbon. Fragrant, beautiful and fun! A wreath made of wicker, on which snowflakes of all shades of blue are glued, looks fragile and elegant. It looks like they just fell from the sky onto a grape branch. Very gentle Christmas wreath It will be made from azure ribbons, gathered into ruffles and decorated with small snow-white balls that look like snowballs. You can assemble such a wreath from individual modules using the origami technique. To do this, modules of the same size in an amount of approximately 60 pieces are folded from green colored paper of several shades. On a cardboard sheet with a circle drawn in the upper part in the shape of a wreath, assembled triangles are placed: from darker to lighter colors, which will create the illusion of volume. In this case, the acute corner of the module is hidden under the previous figures, as in real branches. Then a pink cardboard candle with a yellow paper flame is “placed” in the center of the wreath. Paper snowflakes cling to streamer ribbons, as if hanging from a wreath. You can take a cardboard sheet in a wooden frame or make a edging from the same bright cardboard. Just like that - unexpected and sweet. Happy holidays to you!

Today’s review will present examples of festive New Year’s wreaths that can be made without much difficulty with my own hand! It should be noted that the tradition of decorating the interior with festive wreaths was borrowed by the residents of Russia from Western countries, where the celebration of Christmas and New Year is definitely not complete without this accessory!

DIY New Year's wreath.

Festive wreaths made of Christmas balls.

To recreate such a wreath, you should stock up on: thick wire, different-sized Christmas tree balls and a glue gun.

We form a ring from the wire without connecting the ends, take balls with holes for the thread and thread them one by one onto the wire, then use a glue gun to fix the balls in the desired location (the caps of the balls can also be treated with glue so that they do not slide off the product), in When finished, twist the ends of the wire and decorate the wreath with a ribbon, tinsel or bow.

How to make a New Year's wreath from plastic bags.

For work you will need: glue, cardboard, scissors, transparent plastic bags, bright ribbon or bow.

We cut out a base ring from cardboard, take the bags and cut them into strips 7-8 cm wide, after which we cut the resulting strip on both sides (leaving space in the center) into narrow strips (see diagram). After all the strips are prepared, take a cardboard ring base and gather the cut strips, glue them to the cardboard base, simultaneously forming the pomp of the product.

The diagram shows what a cardboard ring should be like. The diagram shows cutting paper into strips (the sheet remains intact in the middle).

New Year's wreath made of paper.

We cut out blank leaves from thick colored paper, and a base ring from cardboard, after which, using glue, we fix the cut out leaves on the cardboard surface (we glue the leaves overlapping).

DIY New Year's wreath made of paper roses.

We take a narrow strip (5 cm wide) of paper that matches the color, bend it as in the diagram below, take a toothpick and twist a strip of paper onto it in the shape of a rose. You should also prepare several “horns” from paper of a different color; to do this, take a strip of paper, twist a cone, and cut off the excess. Next, we glue all the resulting blanks using a glue gun to the surface of the cardboard ring.

The diagram shows that a sheet of paper needs to be folded more than in half.

Wreath of gift bows.

We purchase the required number of multi-colored bows, which we then glue to a pre-prepared cardboard ring.

Festive wreath made of thin twigs.

We take flexible tree branches (for example, willows), weave them together, simultaneously forming a wreath, paint them from a spray can in a suitable shade, complement them with beads, ribbons, chains, and bows.

A simple paper wreath.

We take a wide strip of colored paper, bend it in half, glue it, and cut it into non-through strips. Then we straighten the resulting volumetric product and glue it in the form of a wreath. Additionally, the product can be decorated with paper bows or hearts.

Wreath made of wine corks.

It is necessary to purchase a large number of wine corks, which are glued tightly together to each other on a base cut from plywood or very thick cardboard. Finally, the product can be complemented with bright flowers, ribbons, bows, and spruce branches.

In Russia, the main winter holiday is considered, but there is also such a holiday as, and I also want to prepare for it. Having watched enough foreign films as a child, the idea of creating a Christmas wreath for the front door pops up. Making it yourself is very simple.

We will need:

1. thick green paper, matte, double-sided, A4 size
2. sheet of bright red or pink paper, size A4
3. colored scraps of paper (for cutting out decorations)
4. scissors
5. cuttings (you can do without them if you have scraps of colored paper)
6. PVA glue
7. stapler with staples
8. fantasy

Let's get down to business!

My base is a piece of paper, green on one side and slightly golden on the other. The side opposite the green one can be any other color. Fold the sheet in half horizontally so that the green color is inside. We make cuts from the fold at a distance of approximately 1 cm without cutting 1.5 - 2 cm along the entire length.

Now we turn the sheet over and staple the sides without cuts (as in the photo) along the entire length, the green side should be on top.

We chop off the ends. The wreath is almost ready. Don't be alarmed that the folds are visible on the sides; they add airiness.

Let's make a bow! We cut a strip horizontally from a sheet of pink paper, 1 - 1.5 cm wide. We fold the ends of the strip crosswise, and then lower the resulting loop under its ends. We fasten it in the middle with a stapler.

Glue this bow to the top of the wreath. Cut out small circles from scraps of colored paper. Here you need to use your imagination, the wreath can be decorated with ready-made cuttings, triangles, squares, rhombuses, stars... I cut 7 circles with a diameter of approximately 1.5 cm, and used prepared cuttings in the form of stars and flowers for decoration. This is what happened.

In a similar way, I made another white Christmas wreath. Decorated it with hearts and cats. It turned out well!

You can hang a festive wreath on the door using ribbon or double-sided tape.
Now I have these wreaths on my front door!

Happy holidays everyone!
