Doll bell made of fabric. Doll-amulet "Bell"

At all times, people wanted to protect themselves, their loved ones and bring good news into their homes. For this, special amulets were made that could ward off trouble and attract good luck. One of the most common were rag dolls, which housewives made with their own hands. Guardian Bell not only does not let bad news into the house, but also gives its inhabitants cheerfulness and good mood.

It is believed that the history of the amulet is associated with the Valdai region. It has long been the custom that the ringing of small bells foreshadowed good news. They were hung on their carts by coachmen carrying mail. Placing a bell in fabric, forming a doll, the hostesses also tried to attract positive messages into their home. In the Bell amulet, two images converged at once: in addition to the ringing promising good news, he also personified the house - the spouse of the brownie, who was called to keep the family hearth from grief and grief.

Bell doll attracts good news to the house

Historians still argue about the time of the appearance of the Bell doll. Most experts agree that the amulet was born around the 15th century, when the Novgorod Veche bell was broken in Valdai. Legends say that the famous Valdai bells were cast from its fragments, which became a symbol of good news. There is also an assumption that the Slavs knew about the bells and knew how to use them long before the baptism of Rus. This suggests that the history of the Bell amulet is more ancient than it is commonly believed.

Valdai bell was broken during transportation

The bell differs from other Slavic guard dolls both in the cut of the details and in the figure. The materials for its manufacture are bright and colorful, the skirts are attached in a circle, which is completely uncharacteristic for ancient amulets. In addition, the chrysalis protector from bad news has a pronounced waist and is shaped like a bell. Our ancestors believed that all evil spirits are afraid of the ringing of bells like fire.

There is an assumption that the Bell doll was a talisman not only in the metaphysical sense, but also literally. The bell inside it worked as an alarm. A doll placed at the front door notified the owners of the arrival of guests.

The doll has three skirts that symbolize three worlds: reality (real), rule (abode of the gods) and nav (kingdom of the dead). At the everyday level, this means that well-being has three components: if it is easy for the body, the soul rejoices, and the spirit is calm, then the person also feels happy.

The doll should be bright and resemble a bell in shape.

This amulet was distinguished by its lively and cheerful disposition, which is why it was often called a dancing doll. The bell really looks like it will spin and dance at any moment.

Bell doll looks like it is dancing

The Bell doll is designed to keep bad news out of the house. Most often it was hung in the entryway. Ringing cheerfully every time the doors were opened, the amulet gave its owners joy and good mood. The protective doll personifies the female spirit, and therefore it is forbidden for men to make it and touch it. Usually the hostess made the bell for her house. In addition, the amulet could be an excellent housewarming gift.

    Necessary materials

    In order for the doll to turn out to be special and become not just a decoration, but also a talisman, you need to carefully select materials. To work on the Bell you will need:

  • three scraps of fabric of a round shape, the diameter of which is 22, 20 and 15 cm; the matter must be chosen bright and beautiful, and one shred must be red; it is better if the largest piece is made of a denser fabric, so the doll can keep its shape;
  • a flap of white matter approximately 12x3 cm in size;
  • threads (always red), ribbons and braid;
  • to design a scarf, a piece of fabric in the shape of a triangle with sides of 15x15x21 cm is useful;
  • synthetic winterizer (you can use cotton wool or straw);
  • small bell.
  • Among the scraps for skirts, there must be at least one red

    Step-by-step making of the Bell doll

    A ball is formed from padding polyester (cotton wool, straw). A small bell is attached to it with a thread. The resulting piece should be placed in the center of the largest round piece of fabric.

    A bell is tied to a lump of padding polyester and placed in the center

    The fabric is wrapped around a pad of padding polyester and tied. At this stage, it is important to ensure that the edges of the skirt lie flat and the center does not move.

    The second largest round flap is also wrapped and secured with suture.

    The last piece of fabric is wrapped and secured with thread

    Folds white cloth

    The folded workpiece is applied to the head so that at least 1 cm of fold remains below the neck.

    White cloth is applied to the head

    The white piece is trimmed and secured with red thread.

    White fabric is tied with red thread

    Hands are formed from the corners of white cloth

    At the final stage, a scarf is tied. This can be done in two ways: with or without a warrior. For the first option, a warrior is first put on the head, and the kerchief itself is then tied under the doll's arms.

    How to charge and activate the Bell doll

    A bell without activation will remain just a fun toy or an original souvenir. In order for the doll to become a real talisman and work to protect the house from bad news, it must be properly charged. You need to start while working. The craftswoman must communicate with the craft, share bright thoughts with it, putting her soul into the product. So the amulet will become a conductor of good news and will bring only joy to the owners.

    To activate the Bell doll, you can contact the goddess Lada

    The Slavic goddess Lada is the keeper of the hearth. Therefore, to activate the Bell doll, you need to refer to it. It is better to do this with a full moon, since the heavenly body during this period symbolizes wealth, happiness and a house filled with good.

    Before the ceremony, you need to prepare a saucer of milk and a slice of bread. They need to be placed in front of the front door, where the doll will live. Then they light a candle and pronounce the words of the conspiracy:

    Goddess Lada, Ladushka, sweetheart of the family, come to our (your names) house, bring love with you. Bring harmony and peace to our house, family strong stability.
    Children - health, and me (your name) and my husband (husband's name) - plenty of love, kindness and a happy life. Low bow to you, Lada, but the table is full of gifts.

    Milk and bread must be left in the hallway for a day, and then given to the animals

    Bread and milk should stand at the entrance for a whole day, and then they should be offered to be eaten by a pet in order to pay tribute to the patron spirits. After that, the Bell doll gains power, with the help of which only good news will come to the house.

    Who doesn't want to protect their home from bad news and ward off trouble from their families? The Bell doll helped our ancestors in this. Charged with positive energy and made according to all the rules, this amulet gains powerful power that can attract good news to the house and make its inhabitants happy.

    The Bell doll is another ritual keeper of the hearth. The homeland of Lyalka is Valdai. Our ancestors believed that if there was such a talisman in the house, then joy, happiness and fun never left it.

    In the article:

    Bell doll - master class

    Our ancestors treated with special respect. There were a lot of them, there were different types of lyalek, which were used for different purposes. There were, etc.

    materials for Kokolchik

    In order to make a Bell doll, you will need:

    • white linen fabric;
    • multi-colored material (several shreds, it is advisable to take chintz or cotton);
    • multi-colored threads;
    • synthetic winterizer;
    • ruler.

    Preserved with my own hands

    When making a ritual doll, refrain from using scissors and needles. The fabric is torn only by hand. Using a ruler, measure the required length and width of the doll's future body.

    It should be a square with sides of 24 cm. Next, you need 3 multi-colored shreds. You will need to make 3 skirts from them. Three circles with a diameter of 28, 32 and 36 cm are required.

    The lyalka will have 3 skirts that will personify the three worlds: reality, nav and rule.
    Try to pull off the fabric as carefully as possible, as the edges cannot be processed with a needle. Place the smallest diameter circle in front of you (face down).

    Place a larger circle on top and cover it with the largest skirt. Place a synthetic winterizer in the center. After that, collect the fabric so that you get a bag with a padding polyester inside.

    Accentuate with a thread (fasten the synthetic winterizer inside the fabric). It is advisable to use a red thread, as it (as our ancestors believed) drives away evil spirits and attracts wealth. Now turn the piece over. It turned out the head and torso.

    Place a square piece of white cloth in front of you (face down) so that it resembles a diamond, and position the doll so that the top of its head is in the center of the cloth. Gather the white cloth around the doll's neck and again accentuate the neck with red thread.

    Remember, you cannot draw eyes, mouth or nose on the motanka's face. Our ancestors were sure that an evil spirit infiltrates a doll with a face and it can harm a person.

    You can start creating hands. Gather the white cloth on both sides of the doll, fold the sharp ends inward and accentuate with the thread on the wrists.

    The front and back should be hung over a small piece of white cloth. It must be folded inward and fixed with a thread. After that, you should get a shirt with an emphasis on the waist.

    The head of the doll can be decorated with a small handkerchief. Lyalka Bell can be decorated with beads and multi-colored braid.

    How to activate a protective doll

    Almost any talisman will be just a toy if not activated. Therefore, if you decide to create a real ritual doll, then it will need to be activated.

    To do this, you should talk to her during creation, put your thoughts and energy into her. But sometimes this may not be enough.

    Since such ritual dolls came to us from ancestors, it is advisable to turn to the Slavic gods in their conspiracies. In this case, Christian prayers may not work.

    Find a plot that matches what you want to put into the doll. Most often, they asked the bereghina for health, prosperity, happiness and love. Therefore, conspiracies in which people turned to Perun are suitable:

    Perun! Listen to those who call You! Glorious and Trislaven wake up! Health, bread and Family, to my children (names ...) even, wake up thunder! Rule over Everyone! Vsche from Rodno! Now and ever and from circle to circle! Taco byst, taco, wake up taco!

    Or to Lada:

    Oh you, Lada mother, mother Sva (heavenly) most pure! Do not leave us without love and happiness! Grace descended on us, as if we honor and glorify you Now and ever and from circle to circle! Taco byst, taco, wake up taco! Until the end of time, while the sun shines on us.

    Additional rules for creating a Bell doll

    In addition to the fact that you cannot use a needle or scissors when making a doll, there are a few more tips to remember.

    The preparation of such a talisman is an exclusively female occupation, therefore a man cannot be present during the process or take direct part in the creation of the keeper.

    If the Bell doll is prepared as a gift to a specific person, then only the person to whom it is intended can take it in hand.

    When making bereginia, you can use scraps from old clothes, but it should be "happy". It is forbidden to use things of strangers, sick or deceased people.

    Do not start creating a charm in a bad mood or during an illness.

    The Bell doll will always be the faithful keeper of your home if you can fill it with your love and energy and clearly define its main function.

    If you believe even a little in omens and beliefs, then the presence of a textile doll in the apartment will favor good "weather" in the house, good mood and positive emotions. Amulets, based on their name, are necessary in order to protect the owner from various troubles and diseases.

    A handmade amulet-souvenir carries the thoughts and feelings of the person who made it. Do not forget in the process of creation to think only about the positive and do it in a good mood. The process of making such a doll is quite simple, so even a novice needlewoman can handle it.

    This doll can be presented to a young family for housewarming, it will help keep peace in the house and bring joy.

    The name of the doll "Bell" is due to the fact that a ringing bell is hidden inside it and it rings when it moves. The bell is able to protect the owner from diseases and evil spirits. The doll can be placed in a corner, on a shelf, or hung on a carnation.

    Materials (edit)

    Remnants of different fabrics, preferably in bright colors, are suitable for manufacturing. The doll can be made without using a needle or pattern. A doll's skirt will be made from round scraps, a square cut will be needed for the head and handles. A thin rectangular strip is used for a warrior, and a triangle is used for a scarf.

    I ended up with a tiny doll with a height of 10 cm.

    For her, I used the following cuts:

    • pieces of three colors - side length 22 cm, 20 cm, 15 cm;

    • a square measuring 16 by 16 cm;

    • for the head, trimming of fabric or synthetic winterizer is necessary.
    • threads;
    • bell;
    • scissors;
    • for the warrior, a strip of fabric measuring 2.5 * 12 cm is used;
    • for a kerchief - a triangular cut measuring 15 * 21 * 15.

    Initially, we take a bell and a synthetic winterizer. Instead of padding polyester, you can use scraps of fabric or cotton wool.

    We form a ball from the filler, attach it to the bell.

    Cut out circles from square cuts.

    In the center of the largest circle, we lay this structure, wrap it with a cloth and tighten it so that we get a volumetric blank of the head and skirt.

    Similarly, we fasten the other two circles - first with a larger diameter, then a smaller one.

    As you can see, we get a three-layer skirt and a blank for the head of the pupa.

    Now let's move on to shaping the head. To do this, take a white square blank, add two opposite corners so that the corners touch in the center, and then in half.

    We put the head of the pupa in the middle of this blank and tighten it with threads so that the white fabric is well fixed.

    Use red thread. It is this color that has more protection. Now the doll has acquired a more dignified appearance, her face has appeared.

    We shape the handles

    To do this, fold the corners of the large white square inward, tie along the edges, retreating from the edge of the fabric by 0.5 - 1 cm and tighten it with red threads.

    The handles are ready.

    How to make a warrior

    Now we turn to the warrior. Bend the edges of a long strip, attach it to the head and fasten it on the neck. To do this, we tie it with threads or, for convenience, you can use a needle.

    A triangular blank is used for the scarf.

    We put a scarf on our head, cross its ends under the handles and tie the dolls on the back.

    It is interesting. The ringing of bells from ancient times meant good news and protection from evil spirits.

    There is an opinion that bells existed in ancient Russia, before its baptism. The ancient Slavs used chimes to protect themselves from evil spirits that inhabited the earth at that time. In many sources, you can find a mention of cheerful bells on a team of newlyweds during wedding ceremonies.

    In its shape, the doll resembles a bell, and the bell, suspended from handles or hidden inside, fills it with a living ringing. It is made of bright rags and therefore raises the mood on an unconscious level. Children play with such dolls with great pleasure.

    In addition to playing purposes, the doll can become a talisman for the house. In the case of manufacture, for protection, it is important to observe the basic .

Now this role has lost its significance, because all the doors are closed and it is not realistic to freely enter the dwelling.Although it can be used at the entrance to the study.

    Bell doll features

    The bell doll should be made by the mistress of the house, you can give it for housewarming. A man should not touch this amulet. If a craftswoman makes it as a gift, then only the craftswoman herself and the person to whom it is intended can take it into her hands.

    The Valdai bell personifies human happiness, which consists of 3 components: health of the body, peace of mind and joy in the soul. Only a combination of these 3 aspects makes you feel happy.

    At the symbolic level, 3 skirts mean the connection of 3 worlds: Reality, Prav, Nav.

    Activation

    Doll

    What do you think our lesson will be devoted to? Correctly to the doll.

    Today we will get acquainted with the history of the emergence of a rag, folk doll. With its manufacture.

    We will also try to make a folk rag doll "Bell".

    Since ancient times, the doll has been a traditional toy of the Russian people. She accompanied a person from birth to death and was an unacceptable attribute of any holidays. Playing with dolls was encouraged by adults, since by playing with them the child learned to farm and acquired the image of a family. The doll was not just a toy, but a symbol of procreation, a guarantee of family happiness.

    Most of the dolls in Russia were amulets and trace their history back to ancient pagan times. They are made from natural materials that are brought from the forest: wood, vine, grass, straw. And this is no coincidence, because the forest is the habitat of the Russian people. Dolls made on the basis of a birch forest are a talisman of family happiness. Aspen has always been considered dangerous for evil spirits, therefore, dolls made on the basis of aspen wood are amulets of the house, drive away evil spirits from the dwelling. The main feature of Russian folk dolls is a clear face, without a nose, mouth and eyes. Because, according to ancient beliefs, it was believed that "if you do not draw a face, then evil spirits will not enter and will not bring harm to either a child or an adult." The hand-made toy served as a kind of generic ethnic code for our ancestors, which indicated the landmarks of the life path. Examining the old dolls, we will notice how a chain of hidden symbols, characteristic of the mythological consciousness of the peasant, for Russian folk culture, appears in them. Therefore, there were no coincidences in the manufacture of traditional rag dolls - there was a certain meaning in everything. As a rule, rag dolls were the simplest depiction of a female figure: a piece of cloth rolled into a rolling pin, a face carefully covered with a white linen rag, breasts made of even rag balls, a scythe, and an ordinary or festive peasant dress made of a patch.

    The similarity, the roll call of dolls from different nations is surprising. They are united not only by their origin (play dolls everywhere arose from rituals, emerged from ritual), but also universal human ideas and values: continuity in kinship, nepotism and parental care, in the veneration of ancestors.

    The Russian rag doll includes several archetypes shaped by tradition. Column (column, log, chock), cross or sacrum, doll on a stick, knotted (knotted) doll, diaper, twist (twist, roll, rolling pin), stuffed doll-bag - they all existed at the same time in the 19th - first half of the 20th century in the countryside and small provincial towns. Each type is scattered, in turn, into many local variants characteristic of a particular area. The researchers drew attention to the fact that dolls from different regions, with all their external figurative differences, are similar in the methods of making the internal fundamental principle. We noticed a common for dolls pillar-like body shape, which was rolled up so tightly that it turned out like a sculpture made of solid material.

    What archaic ideas have accumulated in the body of a rag doll? With all the ethnographic differences everywhere, the doll was a mythological formula of the world order, reflecting the very essence of the universal circulation in nature and human life. The simplest three-part figurine, pulled over the place of the neck and belted, was built according to the scheme of the triune world: heavenly (upper), earthly (middle) and underground (lower). The cross-shaped dolls also pointed to four directions of light. Thus, their very design contained the universal number 7 - the symbol of the universe. Note that the everyday word “family” sounds like a spell: “I” is in the center of the universe, “I” must be repeated seven times - then there will be a family. This powerful symbolism is also encrypted in the doll.

    Homemade ”dolls were presented to relatives and friends, cementing family ties: this is also one of the evidence of their sacred significance. In the family, for their children, dolls were usually “turned” from old rags. And not even because of poverty, but according to the ritual of blood intimacy. It was believed that the worn matter kept the generic strength and, embodied in a doll, passed it on to the child, becoming a talisman. For dolls, the hems of women's shirts and aprons were most often used. It was these parts of the costume, touching the ground and thus absorbing its power, that had the greatest sacred meaning. It is noteworthy that dolls' shreds were always torn along a straight thread, and not cut off with scissors. It was believed that such a toy prophesied integrity to its little mistress without flaws and damage.

    Dolls were not only girly fun. Until the age of 7-8, all children played while they wore shirts. But only the boys began to wear ports, and the girls began to wear a skirt, their playing roles and the games themselves were strictly separated. While the children were small, mothers, grandmothers, and older sisters sewed dolls for them. From the age of five, any girl could already make such a nursery rhyme. Toys were never left on the street, were not scattered around the hut, but kept in baskets, boxes, locked in chests. They took for the harvest and for gatherings. Dolls were allowed to visit, they were put in a dowry. They allowed the "young woman" to play, who came to the groom's house after the wedding, because the marriage was given from the age of 14. She hid them in the attic and secretly played with them. Then these dolls were passed on to the children.

    Almost all village festive rituals were played in puppet games. Most often, weddings are a particularly impressive, solemn and beautiful Russian folk rite. They took the game very seriously, preserving the sequence of the ceremony, memorizing and repeating the conversations of adults, the ritual songs they performed. For the game, they gathered in groups in a hut, in a barn, in the summer on the street. And each girl brought with her a box of dolls. There were up to twenty or more of them in the game: the groom, the bride, the parents of the young couple, the girlfriends-bandages, the girlfriends-kukushnitsy, the tysyatskiy, the povoznik and all the rest, as it should be for a real wedding.
    Toy traditions were common in every corner of Russia. Any child had his own doll, starting with twisted dolls, which belong to the very origins of Slavic folk culture.

    Currently more known 90 kinds different dolls:amulets, ritual and play.

    There are a lot of dolls in each functional group, we will consider only some of the most interesting "representatives".

    First the folk doll became the subject of scientific and public opinion in the late 1870s. This is primarily due to the activities of an outstanding representative of Russian scienceEgor Arsenievich Pokrovsky (1834-1895) the founder of the national ethnography of childhood. A well-known Moscow pediatrician, doctor of medicine, honorary member of the Imperial Society of Lovers of Natural Science, Anthropology and Geography, he took the most partisan part in organizing the Anthropological Exhibition in 1879. In the panorama "Raising Russian Peasant Children" among cradles, gurneys, walkers, toys, a folk doll, mainly a rag doll, took its place. The world of childhood first appeared as a value phenomenon of folk culture. His works were read and ruled by Lev Nikolaevich Tolstoy when studying the experience of raising peasant children.

    The rag doll is an integral part of Russian culture, and in today's Russia it is experiencing a true renaissance. The hand-made patchwork figurine now performs a new function: it becomes a living means of communication and introduction to folk cultural experience.

    Description of making a rag doll "Bell"

    The protective doll of good news Bell is also called the Valdai bell, since the doll's birthplace is Valdai.

    Today I want to offer you a master class on creating a doll - amulet.
    A talisman is an object that protects the owner from troubles, protects a house or a person, brings love, happiness, every detail of the amulet has a certain meaning. Made with his own hand, the amulet bears the imprint not only of protection, but also the potential of the thoughts and feelings of the person who made it. So, when you get down to work, stock up on good thoughts and good mood.
    The doll is easy to make, and its protective essence is clear to everyone: to bring joy and good mood into the house. The bell carries the law of harmony. The doll has three skirts like three bodies. And when the body is good, the soul is joyful and the spirit is calm, when there is harmony between them, this is happiness. The ringing bell reminds of festive triplets with bells ringing under an arc.
    I will make a Bell doll. The birthplace of the doll is Valdai. From there came the Valdai bells. The ringing of a bell drives away evil spirits and diseases. It was believed that if there was such a talisman in the house, then joy, fun and happiness did not leave him.
    Previously, such dolls also had common names: rags and reels. Neither needles nor scissors were used to create them. Since the one who makes the doll did not want the owner of the amulet to be exposed to the "stab-cut" life. They were created from scraps of used clothing. And they retained the warmth of the thoughts of the person wearing it.
    True, in this master class I will use scissors, because, firstly: this doll is only a sample and will not serve as a talisman for someone; and secondly: the fabric is new, and I cannot tear it by hand)))

    For work we need (fig. 1):

    - good thoughts and wishes;
    - cotton fabric (white);
    - multi-colored rags of fabrics (cotton, chintz);
    - red cotton thread;
    - scissors;
    - pencil;
    - ruler

    Giving the Bell doll we wish our friend only good news and joy.

    1). We select and cut out three circles from fabrics of a suitable color with a diameter of 24, 19, 16 cm. A square of white fabric for the face 20x20 cm. It is better if the fabric is not thin. A little padding polyester for the head. Bell, thread for tying. The kerchief can be made and put on in two ways: the first is a semicircle of 16 cm in a circle, the second is a regular scarf made of thin fabric.

    2). We tie a thread to the bell and tie it to the synthetic winterizer. We place the synthetic winterizer in the center of the large circle.

    3 We tie. We make sure that the center does not shift and the edges of the skirt are even.

    4). Then we also put on the second flap and fasten it evenly.

    5). The third flap is the same.

    6). Fold the white face flap in opposite corners to the center.

    7). We try on the folded flap to the head so that about 1 cm of hem remains below the neck. Not less.

    eight). If necessary, we adjust it, fix it on the neck.

    nine). We make out the hands.

    ten). We tie the scarf in the first way.

    eleven). For the second option, we put a warrior on our head.

    12). We put on a scarf and tie it under the handles.

    13). If desired, we tie a braid for the suspension.

    A great gift for friends and family!

    In conclusion, I cannot fail to mention one more nuance, which is always focused on the attention of newcomers by experienced craftsmen. The very first do-it-yourself ritual-protective doll is not accepted to give or give away - a bad omen. Therefore, if you decide to practice in the ancient Slavic craft, save the result of your first work. Just in case. Who knows where in this tale is a lie, and where is a hint?

    It is possible to classify dolls according to manufacturing technologies (coiled twists, twists, from fabric squares, etc.). It is possible according to rituals (for family and household, calendar, others). But, in my opinion, it is better to use the grouping method by function or, if you prefer, by magical puppet power. It's much more romantic that way. I would even say - more fabulous.

    If you decide to try a doll - twist to make, remember one thing: it is very important to make it with good intentions, and in a good mood, and not only a twist, but any doll. When tying an odd number of knots, attaching one or another of its elements, one should say good wishes aloud and tie knots only with a red thread.

    The details of the doll were not sewn together, but tied together by tying them to each other. In some cases, they were winding over the "sun" ie from east to west, in others according to a special scheme, avoiding repeated turns. At the same time, wishes were formulated, humming, chanting or reading malitvas (and only in rare special cases they kept complete silence).

    So our meeting has come to an end. Each of you holds in your hands a piece of history, kindness, and traditions of our ancestors. Today we have looked into the past, but the future is not possible without it. Let the doll that you hold in your hands be a toy for someone, a talisman for someone in later life. I want you to refer to the traditions of our ancestors as much as possible.

    Thank you all for your work and our warm welcome.
